Every time I release something; be it a single, an EP, or an album; I create a piece of cover art as the illustration on the cover. I then submit it, along with my master recording/s, to my publishing company.
In the case of the single in question – in fact the entire series of 3 singles, one of which is still to be published, a week after this one, before the UK General Election Polling Day – the publishing company I used was CD Baby.
When I submitted cover artwork for my single
I was told I couldn’t use that artwork, and I ended up using the artwork as pictured below as a last-minute alternative.
The artwork I ended up using isn’t that different to the artwork I used for the original version of *True Blue * – The one that I mixed badly, as well as had issues with the mastering, and it turned out sounding rather awful.
Don’t get this wrong though; just because it has similar cover art doesn’t mean it has similar sound issues – fortunately – in fact the remix is much better than the original.
CD Baby informed me that I can’t use my originally intended artwork as it pictures a CD, yet the release is only available for download. They say that it could confuse people… Only if those people have an exceedingly low IQ, in my opinion… And they say that their distribution partners might object and not accept the release as a result.
I did reply that their whole argument was very petty; but I didn’t argue other
A Series of 3
…And you may have noticed that I mentioned above that there is a series of singles; all to be released before the UK General Election Polling Day on June 8th 2017. The timing is, of course, due to the singles being politically flavoured and in support of the Conservative Party.
They also show how it’s possible to develop a sound over time: The first single has a fairly basic beat and instrumentals to it. The remix – the second single in the series – has extra accompaniment and better vocals.
The third in the series has further accompaniment, extra harmonies, a few added effects, and the vocals are enhanced even more, using electronic DSP (Digital Signal Processing).
So basically here’s a heads-up on what is to come: –
Let’s hope they don’t reject my cover art for the Extramix single too. – I can’t see why they would; there’s no CDs on it. It does have Big Ben on it though. – Maybe they’ll tell me it’s not in the interests of America or something equally nonsensical… I’ll have to wait and see.
