How To Create A Magnifier Desktop Item – Windows 10( 'Takes about 3 minutes to read. )

- 'Simply one more edifying post. Thumbs-up smiley - Enjoy.

ani.Smiley(s), computer - typing 01Windows 10 has made using your computer yet easier still – But despite all the advances, it’s not that easy for someone who’s visually impaired to get Windows10’s on-screen magnifier working. –

I’m a singer/songwriter and this is my website. – so why aren’t I writing about singing and songwriting? Well I do a fair share of that too. I also write about the business aspects of an entertainments-business; which may or may not involve using a Windows 10-powered PC.

You may belong to the group of 1 person in 4 who gets very little if any trouble with their eyes, but even if this is the case your vision isn’t going to be as good as it was the day you were born throughout your entire life.

magnifier - Windows 10 enquiryWith the last similarly-styled operating system; Windows 7, someone with bad eyesight had to be able to see and discern the small round Windows logo (Start) button. in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen by default, click it using a standard mouse pointer, type the word “magnifier” into the search-bar, see the small writing saying “Turn Magnifier on or off, click it, and be taken to the Ease of Access Center. At the Ease of Access Center the Windows 7 computer eventually stared to talk to you, and highlights four links as an electronic voice reads them out.

In Windows 10 the process is a lot easier. – But it’s still a good idea – particularly if you or another user of the PC are partially-sighted or visually-impaired – to create a desktop icon  to use to take you or them straight there.

A number of the pictures/illustrations corresponding to this article have been lost due to a fault.
Sharron-Idol apologises for any inconvenience caused.

The following demonstrates how to
create the icon on the desktop.

The procedure isn’t exactly rocket science:

Right-click an empty area of the Windows 10 desktop and hover your cursor over “New”. In the list that appears, select “Shortcut” by clicking on it.

  • In the text-input line below where it says “Type the location of the item:” Enter “Magnify”. (Without the inverted commas.)

  • Press return on your keyboard.

Enter

  • In the following text-input bar, below the words “Type a name for this shortcut”, ignore the highlighted “Magnify.exe” and type “Magnifier”. (Without the inverted commas.) : –

  • Press return on your keyboard

The Magnifier icon you'll create

You’ll now see that you have a brand new icon on your desktop with a picture, the contents of which include a screen with a magnifying glass in front of it, marked “Magnifier”.

All that a visually-impaired person has to do now is to click that icon and the magnifier will instantly appear, as if by magic.

(Yes; the illustration came from an earlier article I wrote about accomplishing the same thing in Windows 7, and was created from the display of a Windows 7-powered machine… But it looks exactly the same in Windows 10.)

The elusive magnifier feature is now instantly available to you or a partially-sighted person with just a click.

  • A bit of Windows 10 hassle averted on buggerallon dot TV: Showbiz with a technical twist and a bit extra on top, from the hi-tech artist with art in her code and a code in her tune.

If you like my music and/or my website/articles I'd like you to come back some time. - In fact I'd like to stay in touch with you, and have you come back here to this site sometime.

The only way I can think of to achieve this is to ask you to leave me an email address on which I can contact you... So I'll tell you what I'll do: I'll give you almost 30 minutes of my self-composed mix in exchange for your email address. - 'Good deal yeah? - 'Great, we're singing from the same lyric-sheet here, as it were.

When you enter your email address below and click "Get It Now", you'll be taken to my "Thank You" page, where you can download your music, and click on links to more of my stuff if you're interested too.

Since I will then have your email address I'll send you email from time to time; like when I have something interesting to say, or when I release something, or even when I think there's something I've found that you'd be interested in.

You can unsubscribe from these emails at any time if you get fed up with getting them, and I won't complain about it. - And you won't hear from me again; unless you re-subscribe.
