Afterglare

Sharron-Idol’s * Afterglare * EP: Album Notes( 'Takes about 10 minutes to read. )

* ~ Welcome to the website where it's all good. ~ *

These are the album notes for my EP * Afterglare *.

Afterglare.

Afterglare (2)

This time round, although I wasn’t at the time planning to transpose the notes from CD Baby’s plain-text-flavoured album-notes-hideout to my own rather grand website – which actually didn’t even exist as it is now when I created that track: I was still using the old site at kkomp.com which I’d converted from a tech and computer-help website… ‘Long story; I did put a lot of effort into creating the album notes.

As you must surely know by now a lot of my releases are instrumental, without lyrics, and it does – to be honest, although it’s not the reason why I create instrumental pieces – save a heck of a lot of time in writing out and checking lyric sheets. I do a lot of instrumental because the music talks equally as much or more than a human voice. – It’s just that some of the time it’d good to compliment the music with a human voice: Mine, since it’s my music. I don’t claim to have the best voice out of whoever many people; my voice is there to compliment the music rather than win an award.

Anyway, prologue over. The album notes, as they appear on the original CD Baby copy – which is in plain text format, are below – in glorious HTML format: –

The main things I had in mind when I created
*
Afterglare * were quality and patience.

I was working in a number of different styles consecutively and I wanted there to be some definite similarity in the tracks, with which the listener could relate the components of this EP one to another. I guess with some other performers that’s a standard thing; possibly in some cases because their music all sounds much the same anyway. (Think Status Quo.) – It’s this “genre’” thing; in which an artist or band of artists are supposed to play and sing everything in the same style so that the audience or potential audience can pigeonhole their sound and label it as so-and so genre in so-and-so style. – With the result that everyone who wants to hear so-and-so genre’ in so-and-so style listens to group X or artist X. – That is so not how I roll.

Heck I even tried to kick off a new genre – ‘Glam Punk’: Listen to * Twenty Teen Queen * on my * Tributes * EP, or * Wrath of Thor * on my EP * Divine Social * for examples if you haven’t done so already. – And Glam Punk may yet take off in the future. – ‘Thing is I don’t do like single-genre’ music: That’s boring and it removes all the variety and incumbent possibility from everything. I’ve lived and I’ve experienced everything from Glam Rock, Punk Rock, through Ska, Jazz Funk, New Romantics, (R.I.P. Steve Strange.) Indie, Motown Revival, right up to Dubstep and D&B. – I’ve actually lived it, and I’m alive with sound!

Yes I put a little piece of everything in my music.
– Track 2: * Love * for instance; it’s how I assume Marc Bolan & T Rex would sound today had Marc survived.

I use electronica in a lot of my music; sometimes mixed in with a rap beat accompanied by some other style beat with maybe some rock bass at an urban tempo as an example of the type of beats I create. – in short I’ll try anything twice if it’s musical. – But I refuse to be pigeonholed; and that can make for some difficulty in this new internet-music age: I don’t have a set genre’ – so all the online music “gurus” are wasting their time telling me to go find a place where my genre’ of music’s fans hang out: The entire music scene is my venue; the world my oyster. – I break the mould and I shapeshift to suit the project I’m working on. You’ll find me in all genre’s and all genre’s in me.

So to the work in hand; and the four tracks on said work: –

Track #ONE: * Afterglare *:

Yes OK firstly I apologise to Becky Hill and Oliver Heldens for taking the title of their 2014 No.1 hit and bastardising it. Maybe, just maybe, that might springboard the track into the charts-? If it does then I’m not complaining. I’m told the track has a distinct reminiscence of Kate Bush. – That is something I can only take as a compliment, to be compared with such a genius artist. I don’t intend to let it go to my head though. I’m actually currently working – on and off – on a track in the style of Kate’s track * The Hounds of Love *; so that’s maybe something else “Bush-y” to look forward to.

The lyrics to * Afterglare * were adapted for song from a poem I wrote somewhere around 2011 during a rather turbulent relationship with a lady who I’d considered to be a long time friend, and who was a couple of years older than myself, but who turned out to be abusive and a user, also with other hitherto-undisclosed issues.

Without further ado, then, here are the lyrics: –

Ice Recordings Present:
* Afterglare * ~ Lyrics Written by Sharron-Idol June 2015. Copyright Ice Recordings/Sharron-Idol 2015 All rights reserved.

1.
I’m building bridges from the shit that hit the fan,
While this rolling speeding roller-coaster’s roaring on.
We’re with the program while the process overloads.
– I turn around for just one second you are gone.

2.
I just wish you’d held me like your – hold over me;
I wish that you’d love me as I’ve loved you since we met.
‘Touched that spot deep down inside, released me, set me free.
– And then you walk away. ‘Expect me to forget?

Chorus1:
There there;
Now, yeah – I’m ready for the af-ter-glare.
I swear;
Yeah yeah – I’m ready for the af-ter-glare.

3.
I’m making towers from the height of what you told me;
I’m building castles in the winds of all you said.
I’ve put up battlements and fortresses against true love;
Yet you breeze through them all and leave me there for dead.

4.
I Wish you had passion for the passion we should share.
I Wish you were dying while I’m crying out for you.
I would cross a million canyons anytime and anywhere;
It is the smallest feat; the least that I could do.

Chorus2:
I swear;
Yeah yeah – I’m ready for the af-ter-glare.
I care;
But Hell yeah; now here comes that af-ter-glare.

5.
The heat is on, I melt like ice-cream in the sun.
A superstar that ventured out too far but un-der-par.
A flower bloomed, and shone beyond impending doom.
I drown myself in you, it’s something I must do –

Chorus3:
Ooooh. – There there;
Now, yeah – I’m ready for the af-ter-glare.
I swear;
Yeah yeah – I’m ready for the af-ter-glare.

6.
I’m building bridges from the shit that hit the fan,
While this rolling speeding roller-coaster’s roaring on.
We’re with the program while the process overloads.
– Then when I turn around – just seconds – you are gone.

Final chorus:
Ye-aaah ye-aaah
Ye-aaah ye-aaah – I’m ready for the afterglare.
Ye-aaah ye-aaah
Ye-aaah ye-aaah – I’m ready for the afterglare.
(repeat to fade)

The second track, *Love*, is as a tribute to the late Marc Bolan.

I’ve been a Bolan fan longer than I can remember, and I thought it would be nice to create a track in his style; both in honour of his career, as well as to help to discover further technique and to help to progress my maturity as an artist.

I’ve already stated that it’s how I assume Marc Bolan & T Rex would sound today had Marc survived. The fact that it’s produced in the style of Marc Bolan and T Rex is deliberate, rather than by chance as with * Afterglare * being in a similar style to Kate Bush. To be perfectly honest I think that’s all I need to say on that: This release is meant to be musical; not reams of text. Enjoy the lyrics: –

LOVE   Lyrics by Sharron-Idol – May 2015

1.
Do you think your love – oh do you think your love is like a dove?
Spreading out your wings – and things – and flying on the wings of love.
Oh do you think your love – oh do you think your love is like a dove?
Like a bird of peace – don’t cease, cos I can’t – I can’t get enough.

Chorus. (This is pretty easy to learn,)

La – la la, la – la la la.
La – la la la. Lo-ove.

2.
Do you think your hair, so fair, is there to make me want to care?
In the lofty heights – at nights. – You’re flying, up where eagles dare.
Warm me with your love – cos I just can’t get enough.
Burn me in your love – like a dove.

Chorus again. (Same chorus. – No learning curve required.)

La – la la, la – la la la.
La – la la la. Lo-ove.

3.
Do you think your song, so long, is sung to make me sing along?
With words that rhyme – to beat, so sweet. – A tune, unique, with lyrics strong.
The moon in the tune – on a Summer’s night in June.
Ev-er-y-bo-dy sing along.

4. (Come on – sing along. – It’s verse 1 again, sort of…
You weren’t paying attention were you?)
Oh do you think your love – oh do you think your love is like a dove?
Spreading out your wings and things and flying on the wings of love.
Oh do you think your love – oh do you think your love is like a dove?
Like a bird of peace – increase, don’t cease, cos I can’t get enough.

(…And the chorus again; just repeat to fade…)
La – la la, la – la la la.
La la la la. Lo-ove.
La – la la, la – la la la.
La la la la. Lo-ove.

Before we go on to the instrumental track #4 we have track#3
(Now there’s a surprise!).

It’s titled * IKYABWAI *. IKYABWAI – for those who aren’t aware – is internet slang for “I know you are but what am I?”. – in a similar way to how ROFLMFAO is internet slang for “Rolling on the floor laughing my f…ing ass off”.

* IKYABWAI * was originally recorded in a style that I call Acapulco: That’s a cross between a’capella and cantata. I re-recorded it as a dual track with extra harmonics and choral-sound sandwiched between the layers.

The track is titled * IKYABWAI * (I Know You Are But What Am I) and it’s basically a peek into working with a (fictional) hopeless artist.
The lyrics go something like: –

“You’ve got a scathing kind of voice. – I would not work with you by choice.”
“This does not synchronise with me. – Most of this tune is all off-key”
“I am trying with precision. – I am not a tune magician”…

You know what; if feel that this is a song where if I gave you all the lyrics beforehand, and you have a considerable amount of them already, it’d ruin the experience. – Also I’ve lost the lyric sheet; which also doesn’t help.

Track #FOUR: Well it’s instrumental, so fortunately there is no lyrics sheet to lose this time. I don’t want to ruin the listening enjoyment of this either. – Play it and enjoy it.

Finally; well have a great day. – Smile 🙂 .
